== Site of the Meeting ==
On July 3, 2015, Yoichi Miyazawa, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry announced that “the City of Kitakyushu, since the establishment of the Imperial Steel Works, Japan, has developed into a heavy chemical industrial region, subsequently steering Japan’s industrial modernization and rapid economic growth. At present, the city is at the forefront of energy-related policies; which is very befitting for the venue of the Energy Ministerial Meeting.”
The City of Kitakyushu is promoting ‘Smart Community Creation Project’, by effective district energy supply through the utilisation of renewable energy and by-product hydrogen that are produced from factories for information and communication technologies. With its aims to become a recycling society, the city is working towards to become the forerunners of environmental and energy policies in the world, with a focus on energy supply systems.
In 2011, the city’s history of overcoming pollution in the past as well as its pioneering environmental policies such as launching Kitakyushu Eco-Town were evaluated, and was selected as one of four cities in the world as a Green Growth Model City by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
